Contentment Does Not Make Us Free: Relational and De Facto Autonomy in Dialogue with the Zhuangzi
— An Emancipatory Rereading of the Problem of Freedom in the Zhuangzi

簡介：
以往的見解認為《莊子》只能幫助人達到主體的自由與逍遙，Mercedes Valmisa教授認為《莊子》一書中自由的與自主的主體蘊含了轉變世界與達到事實性的自主的可能。此工作坊的兩個演講將會探討《莊子》中自由問題的兩個面向：
一、心理學自由，它是一個從社會文化的制約與從偏差的價值系統中解放的過程。
二、事實的自主，這種自主來自於主體轉變社會與政治生活的物質枷鎖的能力，即主體與世界的有效互動。
Against the traditional idea that the Zhuangzi can only help us to achieve subjective freedom and contentment (逍遙), Mercedes Valmisa argues that the concept of free and autonomous subject as outlined in this book implies transforming the world and achieving de facto autonomy. This workshop will explore two dimensions of the problem of freedom in the Zhuangzi:
– Psychological freedom, understood as a process of liberation from socio-cultural impositions and biased value systems.
– De facto autonomy, resulting from an effective interaction of the subject with the world capable of transforming the material constraints of the social and political life.
▴ 講者介紹：
Valmisa教授目前任教於美國Gettysburg College哲學系。她曾經在西班牙攻讀哲學及漢學，畢業後在台大以《莊子》中自由問題作為碩士論文主題，在美國普林斯頓的博士論文題目則為”Changing Along With the World: Adaptive Agency in Early China”。她以當代倫理學、政治與社會辯論的視角重新閱讀古代中國哲學，並以英語和西班牙語發表了許多相關文章。
